Lubna Raza - Ehsaas Kafaalat Program

Lubna Raza is a Kafaalat beneficiary hailing from the metropolis of Rawalpindi. She has two sons and one daughter. The elder son Ibad Ali studies in a local government school in 6th class. The younger son Ali Raza is mentally and physically disabled and she is the primary caregiver for his health and wellbeing. Her daughter Dau e Zainab has turned 3 years old this summer and keeps her awake through the night as they don’t have electricity for most of the night. Her husband Zulficar Hussain is a laborer and earns daily wages, his work was severely impacted during Covid and he often suffers from weakness and fatigue. They live in the basement store room of a run down, dark and damp 100-year-old house in one of Rawalpindi’s oldest neighborhoods called Raja Bazaar. The rented 3 storerooms are makeshift bedrooms for 3 families and the common area with a sink and stove are shared by her mother, an unrelated widow and her children and her family has one room.
Every morning hundreds of street hawkers head out from their homes with products, a cart and or makeshift bicycle cart to sell their products in the bustling streets of any metropolis in Pakistan.
Kulsum is a mother of 4 children and her first 2 were born at home with bare minimum facilities. She had suffered post-natal depression and slow recovery during her first two deliveries.
X is a young family man in his late 20’s and works as a laborer in the harsh terrain of Skardu.
Shajahan gets up at fajr to start making his ice-creams for the day. By 8 am he has cycled out to circumnavigate the city and make his earnings for the day.
